Hastings Wyman

Hastings Wyman writes a weekly "Washington insider" column, “Capital Letters,î focusing on gays and national politics. The column, which is distributed by QSyndicate in Los Angeles, appears in some 15 gay papers. From 1993 to 1997, he wrote a monthly commentary on gay issues which appeared in The Washington Blade and other papers. Since 1978, he has written and published Southern Political Report, a non-partisan biweekly newsletter that covers the politics and politicians of 12 Southern states.

Wyman's political commentary has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Roll Call, Southern Exposure and other publications and his book reviews in The Washington Post's Book World. He appears from time to time on television and radio, including NBC News, CNN, National Public Radio and Pacifica.

Wyman was born in Aiken, South Carolina, in 1939 and attended public schools in Aiken and in Camden, South Carolina. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, where he majored in American Government. He also earned a law degree at the University of South Carolina Law School.
